IGP Deploys Special Police Team to Gbeniyiri After Reprisal Attacks Between Brifos and Fulanis

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has ordered the deployment of a special police team to Gbeniyiri in the Savannah Region following reported reprisal attacks involving members of the Brifo and Fulani communities.

In a press release issued on March 11, the Ghana Police Service said the intervention is aimed at strengthening security in the area and ensuring that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice.

According to the statement, the team made up of intelligence officers and investigators has been dispatched to support the Savannah Regional Police Command in managing the situation and gathering information to aid investigations.

The police explained that the special unit will work closely with the regional command to intensify security operations and restore lasting peace in the community.

Authorities say calm has since been restored in Gbeniyiri after the incidents. However, security agencies remain on high alert while efforts continue to track down and arrest individuals suspected to be behind the attacks.

The Savannah Regional Police Command has assured residents and the general public that it is committed to maintaining law and order and preventing any further escalation of tensions in the area.
