Ibrahim Mahama Bags Honorary Doctorate from UMat for Outstanding Service 

Ibrahim Mahama, a renowned Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist, has been conferred with an honorary Doctor of Science degree by the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT). 

This prestigious award, presented to him on January 31, 2026, acknowledges his remarkable contributions to the mining and construction sectors over nearly three decades.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of determination, discipline, and vision, stating..

 “To be conferred with this honorary doctorate degree is not merely a personal honour; it is a recognition of what is possible when determination meets opportunity, when vision is pursued with unwavering discipline, and when success is shared with those who need it most.” 

He also encouraged young professionals to stay focused, saying, “Do not let anyone tell you that formal education is the only path to greatness. Vision, focus, and hard work are what turn dreams into reality.”

President John Dramani Mahama, who presented the coveted award, praised his brother’s entrepreneurial spirit, recalling,..

“Even as children, Ibrahim displayed remarkable entrepreneurial instincts, always thinking of ways to create, build, and provide.”

 Mr. Mahama’s achievements include the Black Volta Gold Project, a milestone in Ghanaian-owned large-scale gold mining, and his philanthropic work through the Joyce Tamakloe Cancer Foundation.

UMaT has also established the Ibrahim Mahama Institute for Precious and Green Ghana to promote sustainable mining practices and environmental stewardship.
