Hearts, Aduana Drop Points as Gold Stars Grab Late Winner on Dramatic Matchday 21

Matchday 21 of the Ghana Premier League served up late drama, missed opportunities for title contenders, and crucial results in the relegation battle across the country on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Hearts of Oak missed the chance to close the gap on the league leaders after being held to a frustrating goalless draw by a disciplined Bechem United side at the University of Ghana Stadium. The Phobians dominated long spells of the match and came close early on when Abdul Aziz Afranie rattled the post, before piling on pressure late in the game. However, Bechem’s organised defence stood firm to earn a valuable point. Hearts remain fourth on 36 points, level with Bibiani Gold Stars and Aduana FC, while Bechem sit 12th, three points clear of the relegation zone.

Bibiani Gold Stars were the big winners among the title chasers, snatching a dramatic 1-0 victory over Swedru All Blacks at DUN’s Park. After struggling to break down a resolute All Blacks defence for most of the contest, defender Kelvin Oppong popped up deep into stoppage time to score the decisive goal. The late strike ended Gold Stars’ recent goal drought and maintained their impressive home record.

Aduana FC also failed to take full advantage in the title race, settling for a disappointing goalless draw against ten-man FC Samartex at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park. Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession and creating several chances, the Fire Club could not find a breakthrough, leaving them third on the table and ruing a missed opportunity to close the gap at the top.

In the relegation battle, Basake Holy Stars boosted their survival hopes with a commanding 2-0 win over Berekum Chelsea at the AAK II Sports Arena. Prince Opoku converted a first-half penalty before an own goal by Michael Mensah sealed the result. The victory marked Holy Stars’ sixth straight home win, lifting them to 13th place and plunging Chelsea into the relegation zone.

Karela United finally ended their winless run with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hohoe United at the Tamale Stadium. Substitute Solomon Aboagye struck late to settle the contest, easing pressure on Karela as they climbed to eighth. Hohoe United, however, remain bottom of the table and in deep relegation trouble.

Young Apostles also found much-needed relief at the Wenchi Sports Stadium, snapping a six-game winless streak with a comfortable 3-0 win over Eleven Wonders. Hussein Issah starred with a brace, while Kingsford Agyemang added the third to move Apostles up to 12th place. Eleven Wonders’ struggles continued as they remain rooted to the bottom, with their survival hopes fading rapidly.
