Greater Accra House of Chiefs Pays Courtesy Call on Asantehene

The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, led by the Nungua Mantse and President of the House, Oboade Notse Odaifio Welentsi III, has paid a courtesy visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The visit, which took place on Thursday, January 30, 2026, was aimed at strengthening traditional collaboration between the two regions and tapping into the Asantehene’s vast experience in governance, peacebuilding, and development.

During the meeting, the Greater Accra House of Chiefs sought Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s support and partnership in efforts to attract international investment into the Greater Accra Region. The delegation also formally requested the inclusion of the Asantehene in a proposed conflict adjudication committee for the region, underscoring his respected role as a unifier and custodian of peace.

In addition, the chiefs extended an official invitation to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to grace the upcoming 200th Anniversary of the historic Akatamanso War, an event of great cultural and historical significance to the people of Greater Accra.

The delegation comprised several prominent traditional leaders, including the Vice President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Nene Tetteh Wakah III; the Paramount Chief of the Ningo Traditional Area, Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII; the Paramount Chief of Teshie, Gbetsoolor Nii Ashitey Akomfra III; and the Paramount Chief of Katamanso, Tatse Nii Laryea Akuetteh X.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II warmly received the delegation at the Manhyia Palace and commended the House for its proactive approach to unity, development, and conflict resolution among traditional authorities.

The visit highlights the continued importance of inter-regional cooperation among traditional institutions in promoting peace, cultural heritage, and socio-economic development across Ghana.
