Medeama SC continued their impressive charge toward the Ghana Premier League title with a convincing 3–1 victory over Karela United at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa, opening up an eight-point lead at the top of the table.
Right-back Kamaradini Mamudu was the standout performer, grabbing a superb brace, while Derrick Fordjour added the third as Ibrahim Tanko’s side extended their remarkable unbeaten run to 17 matches. With 43 points from 20 games, the Mauve and Yellow now look firmly in control of the title race, leaving Aduana FC and Asante Kotoko trailing on 35 points apiece.
Asante Kotoko responded emphatically to a three-game winless run, cruising to an impressive home victory over struggling Basake Holy Stars at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Samba O’Neil opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Albert Amoah marked his return to the club in spectacular fashion with an acrobatic overhead kick. Kwame Opoku then sealed the dominant performance with a stunning bicycle kick, lifting the Porcupine Warriors to third place and keeping their slim title hopes alive.
Aduana Stars also enjoyed a productive weekend, bouncing back from their previous setback with a solid 2–0 away win over Swedru All Blacks at the Swedru Stadium. Benjamin Tsivanyo struck once in each half to secure all three points for the Fire Boys, who remain fourth on the table, eight points behind leaders Medeama. The defeat brought an end to All Blacks’ unbeaten home run and extended their winless streak to three matches.
In Hohoe, Hohoe United and Vision FC played out an entertaining 2–2 draw that did little to ease either side’s relegation concerns. Sena Ati and substitute Lawson Bekui found the net for the hosts, while Sam-An Mohammed and Emmanuel Sanja were on target for Vision FC, who were denied a valuable away win by late drama.
Dreams FC were held to a 1–1 draw by Young Apostles at the Tuba Astroturf. Kumah Kofi gave Dreams the lead in the second half, but Richmond Coka responded almost immediately to earn the visitors a hard-fought point. The result extended Dreams FC’s unbeaten run to four matches, while Young Apostles remain rooted in the relegation zone.
FC Samartex 1996 continued their strong home form with a comfortable 2–0 victory over Nations FC at Samreboi. A Christian Agyenim Boateng penalty and a composed finish from Kwaku Owusu sealed the win for the defending champions.
Bechem United also returned to winning ways, edging Heart of Lions 1–0 at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Stadium. Augustine Okrah struck just four minutes into the match to register his seventh league goal of the season and secure maximum points for the Hunters. Despite recent struggles, Heart of Lions remain seventh on the table with 27 points and will look to bounce back when they host Asante Kotoko in their next fixture.
Bechem United, meanwhile, will aim to maintain their resurgence when they travel to Accra to face Hearts of Oak in their upcoming match.
