Government Takes Delivery of 100 New Buses to Ease Transport Pressure

The government has received 100 new 29-seater buses as part of ongoing efforts to address transport challenges and improve mobility across the country.

Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the development in a Facebook post on Sunday, April 5, 2026. According to him, the buses are part of a larger procurement of 300 vehicles aimed at strengthening the public transport system and reducing the burden on commuters.

He noted that the remaining buses will be delivered in phases, with another 100 expected in August and the final batch arriving in November 2026.

“In the meantime, 100 29-seater buses have arrived in the country to ease recent road transport challenges. They form part of 300 procured for the purpose,” he stated.

The addition of the buses is expected to boost the capacity of the transport sector, improve access to reliable transportation, and offer some relief to passengers who have been grappling with recent commuting difficulties.

This initiative forms part of broader government measures to enhance the efficiency of public transport, reduce congestion, and improve overall connectivity.

Earlier, in December 2025, Minister of Transport Joseph Bukari Nikpe indicated that both the State Transport Company (STC) and Metro Mass Transit (MMT) would receive new buses by the end of the first quarter of 2026 as part of plans to retool state-owned transport services.
