Government Restores Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport

The Government of Ghana has officially renamed Kotoka International Airport , restoring its original name, Accra International Airport.

In a statement issued on Monday, February 23, the Ministry of Transport explained that the country’s main international gateway previously bore the name Accra International Airport before it was changed. Authorities say the decision to revert to the original name reflects its historically established and internationally recognised identity.

The Ministry assured the public that the change is administrative and will not affect airport operations, safety procedures, or international flight schedules. All services are expected to continue without disruption.

It also noted that the airport’s code under the International Civil Aviation Organization has always remained “ACC,” underscoring consistency in global aviation records despite the name change.

According to the statement, the transition will be carried out through a structured process. This includes updating official records, statutory instruments where necessary, airport signage, digital platforms, aviation manuals, and other communication materials.

Government has appealed to the public, aviation industry stakeholders, and international partners to cooperate with the relevant institutions to ensure a smooth and orderly transition. The Ministry expressed appreciation for the continued support of all stakeholders.
