Ghana Embassy in Qatar Arranges Assisted Road Departure for Nationals

The Embassy of Ghana in Qatar has announced plans to organise assisted departure options for Ghanaian nationals who wish to leave the country by road.

In an update issued on March 8, 2026, the Embassy said the move follows an earlier notice released on March 6 and forms part of efforts to support Ghanaians who urgently want to exit Qatar through overland travel.

According to the statement, the mission is currently making the necessary logistical arrangements to facilitate the process for interested individuals.

“Further to the notice issued by the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Qatar on 6th March, 2026, the Embassy wishes to inform that it is making arrangements for assisted departure options for Ghanaians seeking to leave Qatar by road,” the notice stated.

The Embassy has therefore urged Ghanaian nationals who intend to take advantage of the arrangement to formally indicate their interest by contacting the mission via email.

“Anyone who urgently wishes to leave is kindly requested to indicate their interest by email to doha@mfa.gov.gh,” the statement added.

The development comes amid growing diplomatic concern following a recent attack on Ghanaian peacekeepers serving under a United Nations mission in Lebanon.

On March 6   the same day Ghana celebrated its 69th Independence Day  Ghanaian soldiers deployed in Lebanon were hit by a missile attack that left several of them injured.

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has since confirmed that the government has formally petitioned the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, to launch an investigation into the incident and impose sanctions on those responsible.

Speaking at the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting in London, Mr Ablakwa disclosed that some of the injured peacekeepers had undergone surgery following the attack.

“On our way to this meeting, our peacekeepers in Lebanon were attacked. As we speak, three of them have undergone surgeries,” he said.

The government has also called on member states of the Commonwealth to strongly condemn the attack on UN peacekeepers, warning that such incidents undermine global peacekeeping efforts and the principles of multilateral cooperation.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Embassy in Doha says it will continue to keep the Ghanaian community in Qatar updated as arrangements for the assisted departure process progress.
