The Government of Ghana says it is making steady progress in ongoing debt restructuring negotiations with international creditors, assuring all stakeholders that no creditor has received preferential treatment.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance on Thursday, May 29, 2025, the government reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and fairness as it works within the guidelines of the G20 Common Framework.
“The Government of the Republic of Ghana is pleased to inform its international partners that Ghana continues to make good progress in the discussions with all remaining creditors included in the debt restructuring perimeter,” the statement noted.
The Ministry was clear in addressing concerns about fairness in the process, emphasizing that the principle of Comparability of Treatment has been upheld throughout the negotiations.
“No creditor has been treated preferentially. This is consistent with the principle of Comparability of Treatment,” the release stated. “We have strictly applied the provisions in the Memorandum of Understanding with our official creditors, and in particular, have continued to remain in arrears with all external creditors included in the debt restructuring perimeter.”
Ghana’s government expressed appreciation to its international partners for their ongoing support during the economic recovery process.
“The Government remains committed to achieving a fair and mutually beneficial resolution with all creditors and thanks its partners for their forbearance, cooperation, and support,” the Ministry said.
As Ghana continues to rebuild its economy, these restructuring efforts are expected to ease the country’s debt burden and open the door to long-term financial stability.
