The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that it has completed the selection of 2,000 recruits for the first batch of a four-phase enlistment exercise.
In a statement issued on March 17, Acting Director-General of Public Relations, Captain Veronica Arhin, said the successful applicants are expected to report to their designated selection centres across all 16 regions on Wednesday, March 18 to receive their appointment letters and training prospectus.
The military also encouraged applicants who were deferred at the medical stage due to treatable conditions to seek proper medical care. These candidates will be invited for a free medical review at a later date once they are fit.
Notably, the first batch includes 18 individuals who were injured during last year’s El-Wak Stadium stampede. In addition, five recruits were sponsored by families of victims who lost their lives in the tragedy a gesture seen as both compassionate and symbolic.
GAF expressed appreciation to all 16 Regional Administrations for supporting the decentralised recruitment process, which brought the exercise closer to applicants in line with the government’s directive to make recruitment more accessible nationwide.
Authorities have also urged remaining applicants to remain calm as the selection process continues for the remaining batches. According to GAF, many candidates performed strongly in the aptitude tests and will be considered not only for subsequent batches this year but also for future recruitment exercises.
The Armed Forces further indicated that a directive to prioritise residents of Sikaman in the Ashanti Region who assisted in rescue efforts during last year’s military helicopter crash is under consideration for the second batch of training.
GAF assured the public that the recruitment exercise remains ongoing and transparent, calling for patience as additional selections are finalized.
