Fire Ravages Shops at Blue Light Arena in Kumasi

A raging fire has destroyed multiple shops at the Blue Light arena, a bustling commercial hub in Kumasi’s central business district, early Thursday morning. The blaze, which started around 6 a.m., rapidly consumed two-story buildings housing businesses dealing in mobile phones, accessories, jewelry, and clothing.

Eyewitnesses say the fire was triggered by sparks from a flickering electricity pole, which ignited the top floor of one of the buildings. As the flames spread, panicked traders forced their way into locked shops to retrieve their merchandise before they could be consumed by the inferno.

Firefighters arrived at the scene after what some described as a delayed response. Several fire tenders were deployed, but personnel faced difficulties in bringing the fire under control.

Nana Ama Ataffuah Quainoo, the Programmes Director at Hello FM, confirmed that staff at the nearby radio station had to be evacuated as the flames advanced. She expressed concerns about the response time of the Fire Service, stating that their delayed arrival allowed the fire to intensify.

As of now, the extent of the damage and potential casualties remain unclear. Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the cause of the fire and the losses incurred. Investigations are expected to be conducted to determine the full impact of the incident.
