Dennis Miracles Aboagye, spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential campaign, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain vigilant during the December 7 elections to prevent foreign nationals from participating in the voting process.
Speaking at a press conference held at the campaign headquarters, Mr. Aboagye highlighted the party’s longstanding concerns about non-Ghanaians crossing the Ghana-Togo border to vote illegally.
“We have instructed all our polling station executives and party members to stay alert and ensure that only Ghanaians are allowed to cast their votes. It is crucial to protect the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that the people of Ghana exercise their franchise without interference,” he stated.
Mr. Aboagye referenced incidents in the Volta Region, a stronghold of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), that he claimed validate these concerns. He cited a report by the Electoral Commission indicating that a polling official had been questioned by the police for allegedly transporting election materials in a private vehicle without proper security escort.
“This situation is particularly troubling, especially as it is occurring in the NDC’s stronghold,” Mr. Aboagye remarked. He emphasized the campaign’s commitment to monitoring developments closely and called for increased vigilance among party supporters.
“These incidents are deeply concerning, and we urge all NPP members to be especially watchful, particularly in areas where such irregularities seem to occur,” he added.
Mr. Aboagye further accused the NDC of orchestrating schemes to bolster their voter turnout in the region. He also urged the Electoral Commission to provide updates on the investigation into the alleged incident involving the EC official in the Afadjato South Constituency.
“The Electoral Commission must update Ghanaians on the progress of investigations into this matter. Transparency is essential to maintain public confidence in the electoral process,” he concluded.
