The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, on Saturday, January 31, 2026, joined colleague Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, clergy, and other distinguished dignitaries at the GNAT Hall in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region, to mourn with the family of his Deputy Minister, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, following the passing of his father.
The solemn gathering was held in honour of the late Mr. John Azundem Apaak, affectionately known as Baba, who passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital at the age of 81. His death occurred just days after he celebrated his birthday on October 25.

Speaking on behalf of Government and the Ministry of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu expressed heartfelt condolences to Dr. Apaak and the entire bereaved family. He described the late Mr. Apaak as a man whose life was marked by love, wisdom, and selfless service, noting that his legacy would continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. He prayed for the peaceful repose of Baba’s soul.
The event was attended by notable personalities, including Rev. Eastwood Anaba, Founder of Fountain Gate Chapel, who joined in offering prayers and words of comfort to the family.

While in the Upper East Region, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu also participated in the 14th Congregation of St. John Bosco College of Education in Navrongo. At the ceremony, he congratulated graduating students on their academic achievements and reaffirmed Government’s commitment to strengthening teacher education and improving learning outcomes across the country.

The Minister emphasized that investing in teacher education remains a critical pillar of national development, assuring stakeholders of sustained support for colleges of education to produce well-trained and motivated teachers for Ghana’s basic education sector.
