Sachet water consumers across Ghana should prepare for a price increase beginning Monday, April 6, 2026, following a directive from the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP).
The association, in a statement released on April 2, explained that the adjustment has become necessary due to escalating production costs linked to global supply challenges. Central to the issue is the shortage of polymers key materials used in sachet packaging which have seen sharp price increases in recent months.
NASPAWAP pointed to international developments as a major contributing factor, noting that the situation has been “exacerbated by the ongoing conflict in Iran,” which has disrupted supply chains and driven up costs globally.
Describing the decision as unavoidable, the association said the cost pressures have reached a point where producers can no longer sustain existing prices. “The rising costs have significantly impacted production,” the statement said, adding that it has made it difficult “to maintain current prices.”
Under the new pricing structure, the ex-factory price for a bag of 500ml sachet water (30 pieces) will now be GH¢8, while the ex-truck price is set at GH¢10. Consumers are expected to pay a maximum retail price of GH¢15 per bag.
NASPAWAP stressed that the revised figures are guidelines intended to bring uniformity and fairness to the market. It therefore called on distributors, retailers, and consumers to comply with the new pricing regime.
While acknowledging the potential burden on households, the association appealed for cooperation, assuring the public that the adjustment is a necessary response to prevailing global economic conditions.
The development adds to ongoing concerns about the cost of living, particularly as sachet water remains a daily essential for many Ghanaians.
