The Government of Ghana has welcomed Burkina Faso’s decision to lift the suspension on fresh tomato exports, a move expected to ease supply challenges in the country.
The decision follows improved supply to Burkina Faso’s local processing factories and commitments by stakeholders to meet domestic demand.
In a press release by the ministry of Trade, Agriculture and Industry today April 2 confirmed the lift of the ban.
Government said the development will help stabilise the local tomato market. “This is expected to ease the flow of fresh tomatoes into Ghana and contribute to stabilising supply,” part of the statement said.
Authorities also noted that the outcome reflects successful engagements between both countries, particularly meetings led by Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare.
“This positive outcome also reflects the effectiveness of ongoing bilateral engagements between Ghana and Burkina Faso,” the statement added.
Government, however, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening local production, stressing that efforts are ongoing to boost yields and ensure a stable supply through initiatives such as irrigation and support for farmers.
Stakeholders have been encouraged to work with government to maintain a smooth and beneficial trading environment.
