Ghana’s U-15 girls team, the Black Damsels, have kicked off their CAF African Schools Championship campaign in dominant fashion, securing two impressive victories to maintain a perfect start and top their group.
The defending champions sent a strong early message with a resounding 6-0 win over Guinea in their opening match. Ghana wasted no time taking control, storming into a two-goal lead within the first eight minutes. Belinda Kpentey opened the scoring in the 6th minute, before Jennifer Awuku doubled the lead just two minutes later.
The Damsels continued to dictate the pace of the game, dominating possession and overwhelming their opponents. Mavis Koah added a third goal in the 19th minute, setting the stage for Margaret Tawiah, who struck twice in quick succession in the 22nd and 30th minutes. Janet Eyram then rounded off the brilliant performance with a sixth goal in the 35th minute, sealing a comprehensive victory for Ghana.
In their second group match, the Black Damsels faced a more determined Tanzania side but still managed to secure a 2-1 win in a closely contested encounter.
Christiana Ashiaku emerged as the hero of the day, scoring both goals for Ghana. She gave the team a dream start once again, finding the net in the 6th minute. Tanzania, however, responded strongly and managed to level the score after sustained pressure.
After the break, Ghana regrouped and regained control of the game. Ashiaku struck again in the 36th minute to restore Ghana’s lead and complete her brace. The Damsels then showed resilience at the back, holding off late pressure from Tanzania to secure all three points.
With two wins from two matches, Ghana are in a strong position to finish the group stage with a perfect record as they prepare to face Burkina Faso in their final group game on Tuesday.
