Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed heartfelt appreciation to his campaign team, parliamentary supporters, and party executives following his strong showing in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Speaking at his campaign’s collation centre ahead of the Electoral Commission’s official declaration of results, Dr Bawumia credited his performance to the dedication and hard work of his team.
“You’re only as good as your team in these matters, and I can say without any fear of contradiction that I have been blessed with an excellent team,” he stated.
He paid special tribute to his national campaign coordinators, acknowledging their instrumental role in steering the campaign. According to him, the collective effort of the entire campaign machinery was key to the outcome.
“The campaign team, in general, everybody has contributed so much. I may not be able to thank everyone individually at the moment, but I will certainly have the time to do so,” he added.
Dr Bawumia reserved particular praise for Members of Parliament who backed his bid, describing their support as “phenomenal.”
“The MPs who stood by my side have been phenomenal in this contest. They truly supported me and delivered on their promises. I want to thank all the Members of Parliament who supported me,” he noted.
He also expressed gratitude to party executives for organising the primaries, as well as the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the media for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and credible process.
Dr Bawumia’s remarks come as provisional results from across the country indicate that he is maintaining a commanding lead over his four contenders businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
More than 211,000 delegates cast their ballots at over 300 polling centres nationwide in the keenly contested race to select the party’s flagbearer for future national elections.
The Electoral Commission is expected to officially declare the final results once collation from all polling centres is completed, a process widely anticipated to confirm Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s next flagbearer.
