Barcelona Gets Green Light to Increase Camp Nou Capacity to 62,652 as Renovation Progresses

FC Barcelona has received official approval to increase the seating capacity of the partially rebuilt Camp Nou to 62,652 as renovation work on the iconic stadium continues.

The approval allows the club to open the north stand, a key section of the stadium that had remained closed during earlier phases of construction. The development represents another milestone in Barcelona’s long-term effort to modernise their historic home ground.

Camp Nou had been closed for more than two years due to the extensive redevelopment project. Barcelona finally welcomed supporters back in November 2025, although the stadium initially operated at a reduced capacity of about 45,000 seats with only three of the four stands available to fans.

With the latest expansion now approved by city authorities, Barcelona supporters will experience a larger matchday atmosphere when the team hosts Sevilla on Sunday.

The club had originally planned to reopen the stadium in November 2024 to coincide with its 125th anniversary celebrations. However, construction setbacks delayed the timeline by nearly a year.

Barcelona’s broader redevelopment project is estimated to cost around €1.5 billion (approximately $1.75 billion). Once completed, the renovation is expected to transform Camp Nou into one of the largest and most modern stadiums in the world.

The final phase of the project will include the addition of a third tier and a new roof structure, which will raise the stadium’s total capacity to about 105,000 seats. The full project is currently scheduled for completion in the summer of 2027.
