The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) has reinforced its commitment to promoting academic excellence by sponsoring the Second Overall Best Winner Award at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Distinction Awards ceremony. The event, held at Cantonments on March 12, celebrated students who delivered outstanding performances in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

As part of its sponsorship package, ADB awarded the Second Overall Best Winner a cash prize of GH¢20,000 along with a brand-new laptop, recognizing both academic brilliance and dedication to studies. The award was presented by the bank’s Deputy Managing Director in charge of Services, Professor Ferdinand Ahiakpor, supported by a delegation of senior officials. Among those present were the General Manager for Business Banking, Jalaludeen Emran Adam, who also heads Parastatals and Institutional Banking, and the Head of Strategic Marketing and Brand Management, Mohammed Ali.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Minister for Education Clement Apaak congratulated the top-performing candidates and urged them to uphold discipline, integrity, and hard work as they advance in their academic and professional journeys.

Legacy Girls’ College emerged as one of the standout institutions, with two of its students receiving national honours for their exceptional results in the 2025 WASSCE. Huda Suglo Suleman was named Best Overall Candidate in Ghana and Best Candidate in the General Programme (Arts Option), while her schoolmate Paula Adzo Elinam Sowu secured the position of Second Best Overall Candidate nationwide.
Other award recipients included Matthea Aba Andoh of Hope College, who placed third overall. Eric Aduamoah Larbi of Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, Legon, was recognised as the Best Business Programme candidate, while Philip Dadzie Quaicoe of Mfantsipim School received the award for Best Technical Programme candidate.
ADB’s support for the WAEC Distinction Awards underscores the bank’s broader commitment to investing in education and nurturing the country’s next generation of leaders. By rewarding excellence and encouraging academic achievement, the bank continues to play a meaningful role in shaping Ghana’s human capital development and inspiring young people to strive for greatness.
