WAEC Releases Withheld 2024 WASSCE Results

WAEC Releases Withheld 2024 WASSCE Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released all previously withheld results from the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), ending weeks of anxiety for affected candidates.

Initially, WAEC had withheld over 10,000 results due to suspected examination malpractices, but the Council had assured the public that the results would be made available by February 28.

This decision comes in the wake of a legal dispute and mounting pressure from the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), which had threatened nationwide protests if the results remained undisclosed.

Following a court ruling, WAEC was compelled to release the results, ensuring that all affected candidates received their scores as promised.

In an interview with Citi FM, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, confirmed that no results remained outstanding, including those previously tied up in legal challenges.

He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to transparency and fairness, stating, “As we assured the public, we have upheld our promise. By the close of February 28, all withheld results had been uploaded. The court ordered us to release them, and we have fully complied. At this point, there are no pending results from that examination.”

Mr. Kapi acknowledged that although the results were made available on a Friday, WAEC anticipated receiving inquiries and complaints from candidates in the following week.

However, he emphasized that the published results accurately represented candidates’ performances in the examination.
