Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, has named renowned media personality and creative entrepreneur, Kofi Okyere-Darko (KOD), as the new Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs.
KOD confirmed his appointment in an interview with myjoyonline.com on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. His new role reflects President Mahama’s dedication to strengthening relationships between Ghana and its global diaspora, promoting investment opportunities, and fostering deeper cultural and economic collaborations.
A Career Rooted in Media, Fashion, and Events
Kofi Okyere-Darko is the CEO of the fashion brand Nineteen 57 and the visionary behind Rhythms on Da Runway, an annual event celebrating fashion and music.
Born Richard Aidoo on January 13, 1978, in Winneba, Central Region, KOD hails from a distinguished background. His father, James Aidoo, was a retired deputy director of the Ghana Prisons Service, while his mother, Margaret Aidoo, played a foundational role in the 31st December Women’s Movement.
Educational and Professional Journey
KOD received his early education in Winneba before attending Nifa Secondary School in Adukrom. He later studied at the Ghana Institute of Journalism and furthered his education with a Master of Arts in Public Relations from the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC).
His media career began at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) as a production assistant on a television show. He then joined Radio Gold before moving to the UK, where he worked with prominent fashion brands like Ted Baker and Paul Smith.
Upon returning to Ghana, he made a significant impact in radio, working as a presenter, events manager, and marketing executive at LIVE FM under the EIB Network. Over the years, KOD has become a celebrated figure in Ghana’s entertainment, fashion, and media industries.
His appointment as Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs is expected to leverage his vast experience in media, fashion, and global networking to enhance Ghana’s engagement with its diaspora.
